"And God"s peace shall be yours, that tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and being content with its earthly lot of whatever sort that is, that peace which transcends all understanding shall garrison and mount guard over your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
The peace of God is just so wonderful. It's the feeling that everything is going to be alright.
It reminds me of that beautiful old hymn called "Blessed Assurance". The lyrics go like this:
"Blessed assurance Jesus is mine; Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine! Heir of salvation, purchase of God. Born of His spirit, washed in His blood.
"Perfect submission, all is at rest. I in my Savior, am happy and blessed. Watching and waiting, looking above filled with His goodness, lost in His love." Then it goes on to the chorus.
The word PEACE - Shalom in the Hebrew - means harmony, wholeness, completeness, prosperity, welfare and tranquillity. This is how we are to live. This is why Jesus died for us, so we can live this amazing life we have been given. In Israel on Shabbat this peace of God falls over the whole nation like a heavy blanket. Everything stops, there's no public transport and all shops are closed. God's presence is very real and tangible. To enter into this Peace we are told in the bible:
"Do not fret or have any anxiety about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition (definite requests) with thanksgiving, continue to make your wants known to God." Phil 4: 6.
